GREEN
WITH ENVY - If you swim competitively or frequently
this hair tip will help you reduce the very damaging effects of
chlorine, including the green tint so often visible on blonde hair.
Prior
to your swim wet your hair with purified water and groom a suitable
amount of Redken’s Swim Cream through the hair. For even more protection
wear a cap.
Because you made your hair wet with purified water, protecting it
with swim cream it greatly reduces your hairs ability to drink in
the chlorine from the pool water.
After
you swim, shampoo and condition your hair as usual. Most hairdressers
agree that using a clarifying shampoo or swimmer’s shampoo with
great frequency (2 to 3 times a week) will produce negative results
in itself.
Your
swim friends who do not observe this tip may become ‘green with
envy’ this summer (chlorine), but we know you won’t with these helpful
hints.
Have
a great summer! With each purchase of Swim Cream you’ll receive
a complimentary ‘Swim Kit’. The kit includes a bottle of purified
water and a spray bottle. (Offer good while supplies last.)

STAY
COOL - To achieve the very best results when finishing
hair, DO NOT blow your hair dry in the bathroom if you have just
showered there. The high humidity created by the hot shower/bath
will cause several negative effects:
- Increased
blow-dry time
- More
heat exposure to your hair
- Little
to no lift due to the humidity
You’ll
find by moving to a larger/cooler room you will enjoy better results.

COLOR
PRESERVATION - You spend money on hair color and
you want to know what you can do to keep it looking good. It is
a great idea not to shampoo daily. When you do shampoo make sure
you are not using a shampoo that is high in detergent. A poor choice
of shampoos or over exposure to chlorine or sun (without protection)
is the quickest ways to reduce the beauty of your color.
Some recommended color shampoos are:
- Fine
to medium weight hair- Artec Kiwi, Redken Extreme Shampoo
- Medium
weight hair- Head Case Rain Shampoo
- Medium
to thick hair- FlorAr_ma Nourish Shampoo
Whenever
possible finish with a stylist recommended conditioner such as Head
Case Day Dream Color Sealer.

STATIC
GUARD - Have you noticed the changes that occur
in winter? Chapped lips, dry hands and static in your hair, just
to name a few. As temperatures drop and the moisture content in
the atmosphere becomes less, hair becomes dry, weightless and static-charged.
Realizing that everything around you has become drier it now becomes
your job to increase the moisture in your hair. The trick is to
add moisture without collapsing the volume of your hair. The first
place to make a change is with your choice of shampoo. Example:
Say you have been using a bodybuilding or volumizing shampoo like
Texture Volumizing (shampoo) change to or alternate with a slightly
less body-building product like Artec Kiwi shampoo. This adjustment
will help remove the charge from your hair. If that is not enough
help, add a Conditioner (see UNCONDITIONAL CONTROL) or a lightweight
leave-in conditioner/detangler (Logics leave in Protector). Ask
your stylist for his/her recommendation.

UNCONDITIONAL
CONTROL - Many clients say, “I can’t use conditioner-it
makes my hair flat.” Truth is, with the proper knowledge, execution
and the right choice of conditioner you’ll enjoy healthier shinier
hair while eliminating/reducing static! There are five factors you
need to know that will allow success with your conditioner:
- Choice
of product (ask your stylist for recommendation)
- Placement
of conditioner
- How
much product you use
- How
long you leave it on
- How
completely you rinse away
Choice of product- compatibility is the key here.
Observe the following guidelines:
Fine Hair - generally requires a light-weight
or body building (protein) formula. Good choices include Nioxin
Scalp Therapy, Redken Headstong, Kiwi Weightless Conditioner,
and Metropolis Maximum Volume Conditioner.
Thick Hair - usually benefits from a
heavy, moisturizing formula. Good choices are Redken All-Soft
and Heavy Cream Conditioners, Metropolis Maximum Moisture Conditioner.
Medium Hair - has the broadest range
of options. Good Choices include FlorAr_ma Condition, Head Case
Sahara Moisturizer.
How much to use? - finer hair types require less, thick hair needs
more.
Placement of conditioner- the greatest client error often occurs
right here. Many clients report they apply their conditioner to
the top of their head. Big Mistake!! Conditioner should ALWAYS
be applied from the hair ends upward. On long hair you may benefit
by getting NO conditioner on the scalp, your hair will be less
flat.
How long you leave it on- the longer you leave the conditioner
on (up to 10 minutes) the more benefit you’ll experience. For
fine hair get your conditioner on and off quickly. For really
delicate hair try placing your conditioner right over your shampoo
lather-you’ll get some conditioning benefit without the weight.
For longer hair allow your conditioner to stay on through the
course of your shower. The warm, steamy environment is conducive
to absorption and since you haven’t applied the conditioner to
the scalp, you won’t have to worry about the weight.
How completely you rinse away- Fine hair usually requires a thorough
rinse while dry, thick hair may perform best if you quit rinsing
when a hint of conditioner can still be detected. Observation
of these tips should provide you with unconditional control of
your conditioner.

TURN
UP THE HEAT - not a good idea when it comes to blow-drying
hair. If the heat from your hair dryer is “too hot for your hand
(6” to 8” away), it is too hot for your hair”. Continuously exposing
your hair to high heat will eliminate the shine form the hair shaft.
The high heat will reduce the elasticity from the hair, leading
to tangles and split ends. Ask your stylist to recommend a deep
heat treatment you can do at home.
To
decrease blow-dry times try using a separate hand towel to dry the
moisture from your hair. Consider allowing more time to pass between
shampooing and blow-drying. This equals less heat exposure.
For
Clients who routinely use a flat iron or curling iron always keep
a protective barrier between the heat appliance and your hair. Apply
these before you dry your hair.
- Flat
iron- Headcase Strait Jacket Curling iron-

Logics Leave-in Protector Ask your stylist to recommend a deep
heat treatment you can do at home.

BOTTOMS
UP - whether you’re combing, brushing or blowing
your hair dry, this is the way to go. When combing out longer hair
start at the hair ends and work upward. Your hair will experience
less tangling/ breakage. While blow-drying employ the same strategy,
dry your hair from the bottom to the top. You can do this by pushing
or clipping the more fragile (and always visible) top layer out
of the way. DO NOT BURN thru the top layers while drying underneath.
Some clients report they like to turn their head over, allowing
them to remove the moisture from the underneath layers first. However,
for those of you who want to achieve a sleeker flatter finish this
may not be an option (back to clipping the top away).

OVERNIGHT
SENSATION - here’s a quick tip that will allow
you to keep your long tresses strong, shiny and beautiful. Before
you go to bed apply a wearable treatment, Sebastian Potion 9 or
Head Case Strait Jacket. Using your hands apply a suitable amount
of the treatment to the hair, starting at the ends and working upward
(keeping the product off the scalp). Then brush through. Overnight
the product will be absorbed into the hair. This treatment may be
repeated as little as once a week to daily. Should hair begin to
feel heavy use less product per application or repeat less frequently.
We’ve found this is also a very effective treatment for infants
who are rubbing the bald band on the back of their head. The treatment
allows the hair to stay silky- your little one won’t wake up with
a ‘do’ that resembles a bird’s nest.

BEAT
THE HEAT & HUMIDITY - If heat and humidity have
your hair down, laying limp and flat, here are a few tips that will
help you survive until Fall. -If you normally go 6 weeks between
haircut appointments try going 5 during June, July and August. -If
your hair is fine and limp try cutting it a little shorter. -Color
or highlights are great suggestions that are likely to give your
limp tresses a boost. -Try using a stronger hold gel versus mousse.
Say you are using FloAr_ma Gel Mousse, try Head Case Hard-drive
gel (applying on the scalp only) during the summer months. -Also
consider a more body building shampoo. Ask You stylist which of
these solutions are the best ones for you. Don’t let the ‘dog days’
of summer get you down.
